It can be so difficult to see your child struggle.
Maybe your child has come to you with a specific problem that they are wanting support in. Perhaps your family is going through a big transition and you would like to get them support prior to seeing difficulty arise. Or maybe you are noticing changes in your child and don’t know where these changes are coming from but you want to get your child support. Regulated, connected kids do well. My hope is to help your child feel more regulated and connected through our work together.
What you might be noticing:
Avoidance of school, or social situations
Trouble regulating emotions
Friendship troubles
A limited threshold for tolerating disappointment
Our children deserve support through their difficult moments.
How play therapy works
My office offers a safe space for children to explore different interests to them (building, art, sand, board games, and clay) while building our relationship in order to offer them a space to explore what they are feeling while doing something they enjoy.
My teen clients often vacillate between utilizing the activities in the office while talking, and simply getting comfy on the couch across from me and talking. However your child comes to session they are met with non-judgment and curiosity.
What we’ll work on
Therapy can help your child:
Build a trusting reliable relationship in a safe space
Grow an understanding of feeling words and how they show up in your their body
Understand what is happening in their body when their emotions are feeling really big
Learn to believe and trust that nothing is wrong with them
Show up for something that they may not want to show up for (coming to sessions regularly)
Your child has incredible gifts, strengths, & potential.
I’M HERE TO HELP THEM continue to discover that.

Common questions about therapy for children
-
This really is dependent on what's going on with your child and family. As a general understanding, if your child is 12 or younger, it's highly likely that there will be a lot of parental involvement. If your child is older than 12, I base this more on your child/teens desire for involvement from their parents. Sometimes this is substantial, and often it is minimal.

I don't like to put a specific timeline on therapy for kids or adults. This is highly dependent on many factors. My biggest goal, especially for kids participating in therapy for their first time, is to make it accessible to them. I don't want them to dread coming and I want to help build a tolerance for them that will allow them to notice when they're needing that support again as they get older and seek out help later, even if they're not still in therapy at that time.

Therapy happens in small moments over time, helping your child build the capacity to stay present and embodied, even if they are not talking or the process feels "slow". The pace of sessions is determined by your child and their felt safety. There is nothing you or I can do to make that go faster, outside of following their lead in regards to what their needing. This can be a frustrating answer for parents, and I'm happy to discuss it further if that's the case for you!
